Twitter Infographic

I just created my first infographic using a service called visual.ly.  It shows what I tweet and makes some assumptions about me based on the content. Check it out:

Speaking at Technotainment 2010 Conference

I will be speaking at the Practising Law Institute’s Technotainment 2010 conference in September.

My topic this year is: Legal issues with Virtual Worlds, Virtual Goods and Virtual Currencies

The user generated content and social networks have shifted the balance of power from big business to consumers and small business. Additionally, virtual worlds and games are leveraging these phenomena and are increasingly being used for business applications. These trends are driving new business models. These and other factors result in unique and emerging legal issues.  This segment will focus on some of the unique and emerging legal issues associated with:

  • User generated content
  • Social networking
  • Virtual worlds
  • Virtual goods
  • Virtual currency
  • Mirror worlds

Over the next several nights I am going to work on my outline for the distribution materials.  Please feel free to suggest topics, developments or examples that you think would interest the audience.  I will put the outline on SethDMC when I am done. Thanks.

Starting to Blog

I have thought about starting a blog several times over the past few years.  Most of the time I tried to come up with a topic that would garner traffic and create advertising revenue through Google AdSense — the dream of making a living just sharing my musings online. Not!

There was always a reason not to blog — Did I really have enough to say online?  Was it worth my time?  What platform should I use?

Recently I realized that I had been missing the point.

I was asked to present on social media at a legal conference in September, so I began reading more about social media and its impact.  I had long been a Facebook and LinkedIn user, but didn’t go much further.  I have recently added Twitter to my routine and started reading a number of other blogs.  In order to close the circle, I am starting this blog in conjunction with putting together my outline and presentation for the conference.

So now I have gained some clarity and am joining the conversation.  Hopefully I have something to add!
